At 7:30 AM CST on Monday, August 24, 2009, I conducted my first US solo flight at KARR--a single circuit of the pattern. It was conducted in N5886Q during Phase 1 testing. Thanks to all of you, but especially Jay, Jim, Hans and Paul. Off to class now, I will post video/photos at http://sabrina.aero this evening.

Congrats Sabrina! My first solo was in a 172, but I watch the video all
the time. There is a lot of work left, but when you finish your check ride
and get your ticket, it is all worth the wait and frustration. Your first
cross country is another awesome moment.
Fly safe,

Hi Sabrina,
Well done!
Not only did you fly your plane, but you have officially become a
test pilot. Not very many people get to do that before they get
their pilot's license. Even fewer before they get their driver's license . . .
Keep up the good work.

Here is a direct link to the first flight video:

I do not have access to a video editing program right now so I just put the raw
video up with a few stills... this way the conversation between ATC and myself
can be heard since most of it takes place while the camera is on the ground
or being carried around pointing down... :O)

Autoparts stores are a pain! I don't know how many times I've wanted to be allowed
to go in the back with measuring tape or dial caliper and be allowed to roam.
Dan
[quote="paulrod36(at)msn.com"] After driving my local NAPA guy nuts trying to find
the flywheel WW recommends (Pioneer Products, FRA 235), I found a source
here in Kansas City, at a transmission shop. Price was $35.00. I didn't ask
him to go back and look, but he thinks he has about 6 of them on hand. I grabbed
one, and had it drilled to fit, at a cost of $20. Now, on to finding a
Soob starter!

It flies a lot better without that extra 200 pounds in the other seat,
doesn't it? :-)
I didn't see anything that made me shout at the computer, though I wish he'd
caught the touchdown. Oh well.
Take yourself out to the airport and go around the pattern at least 5 times,
just to convince yourself it wasn't a fluke, the very next chance you get.
The usual first solo is 3 times around the pattern, just for that reason;
you can mess up one and still come away feeling good.
You've got 90 days. Make the most of them!

A friend and I are working on a spreadsheet for W&B for my 701. It is attached
for your enjoyment
Zenith, on their weight and balance form says the baggage area arm is 1050mm? and
the weight is 40 lbs.
Does this include the extended baggage area? My baggage area is separated by a
cargo net.
Do I measure to the center of each area?
Just finished my oil access panel on the cowl completing construction.
