Don,
If you need to drill the holes for the flap torque tube, you obviously don't have
a quick build kit.? Do you have the wing alignment jig ?? If not, you will
need to fab a short piece of .025" aluminum to simulate the rear wing spar (see
drawing at upper left of Drawing 6-W-7. Rear Channel).? That is the key to locating
the center of the flap hinge pin; thus the center of the hole for the
torque tube.? See the drawing at the lower left of Drawing 6-W-1.? Then look at
the drawing at the upper right on Drawing 6-S-3 for vertical location of the
wing rear spar.? The spar attach plate will set the location horizontally. Let
me know if you have questions.

I want to install the torque tube for the flaps but the instructions show
matching the hinge up to the center of rotation on the tube.
Can I use the wing mounting bracket as a reference for the tube? How much
error is ok to still allow the tube to work correctly?
Should I wait till after I drill the hole to mount the wing?
Thanx Don

Subject: | Choke cable and Rotax 912 |
Hello everybody!
I just installed the choke bowden cables on my CH601XL with Rotax 912. Although
the bowden cables seem to have very little friction and the minimum bend radius
of the cables is more than 6 inches, it is very very hard to pull the choke
control (in my opinion way to much force required).
Did anybody else experience the same problem?
I installed the choke cable according to plans.
Cheers Martin

Don-
Yes. They come in different sizes. I just happen to have a bag of 1/4"
in front of me and they're part number MS21919-WDG4.

And don't worry about getting to many. You will use them a lot when doing the wiring
and maybe in a few places without wiring.

The other day on my preflight-I noticed a significant amount of play in t

Has anyone come up with a better bearing idea?

Gary,
I have been cautioned to avoid using oil on external control hinges and pivot
points.? The objection is that the oil will attract dust, which will accelerate
wear.? I have been advised to use the white powder lubricant made for locks.

Melvin,
I'm initially presuming the effort to raise the tire on a 601XL. A
C-clamp with a small jack will work if it's
done in the hangar. If it's unexpected on a trip, you may have to be
prepared with a C-Clamp and a scissor-jack
in your stowage. For HD series gear all wheels are easily removed with a
small jack and a bent bar with a T welded
to it. See link.

If you're in the boonies with a tire change needed with a HD series, you
might
find someone that wants to act as a jack with his legs, feet under the
spar. Ha!

Martin--
That was my question 3 years ago and the answer given then is still good.
The choke pull will get a little lighter with time=2C but it will still ta
ke considerable effort to pull it fully open. After 280 hours I don't noti
ce it as an issue. Just set the throttle to a full idle position=2C choke f
ull open the the engine will start fine.
Good luck

All-
Your question on the use of VGs to reduce stall speed made the
"Question of the Week" on the EAA E-Flier. Check it out.
Also, according to the guy who gave the forum on paperwork at
Oshkosh this year, the "51%" has to be built by unpaid amateurs. The
number of people isn't an issue, but there has to be a record of ALL the
builders of an airframe submitted. If you only built a relatively small
percentage of the total project, you can still qualify for an owner
inspection certificate dependent on passing a personalized knowledge
exam.
Don't take my word for it- contact EAA Technical for the last word.
In most cases, they wrote the book!

To lubricate the cables I bought some graphite. I took the steel cable
out of the guides. I squirted a puddle of graphite on a piece of wax
paper and drew the cables through the graphite and used my fingers to
spread the graphite on the cables. The graphite wore off my fingers in
a couple of days, but is still on the cables after 5 years.
