Craig,
Thanks for that.
A pair of needle nose pliers did the same thing. I was looking for a
complicated solution to what is a simple problem.
Thanks
Peter

I haven't used the grommets on mine but this is how I get the camloc studs
through the holes I drill. Compress the camloc and its spring with the
special camloc pliers. Then you should be able to "hook" the shaft with the
pin through the grommet. Try this document:

Hi Guys,
I received my camlocs for the cowling from ASSC the other day.
Attached is a photo. The photo shows:-
40S5-3S SS CAMLOC STUD
4002-NS CAMLOC GROMMET
214-16ND CAMLOC 4002 Receptacle
How do I get the stud into the grommet. Do I have to remove the pin? If so,
how?
Cheers
Peter

Hello,
Camlocs can just be inserted in the grommet by compressing the
spring and then it will fit through the hole. There are special
pliers available, but I just took a little strip of steel and
made a cutout at one end that can support the camloc under the
flange, then by holding the steel piece in your hand you can now
easily push on the head of the camloc and compress the spring and
then maneuver it through the grommet or aluminum plate. I can
send you a picture of the little tool if this is not clear but I
am on the road at this moment.
