Subject: | Re: Signed off to Solo the Sabrina Mark 1 !!! |
Lucky I did not hold off my first solo flight until after I passed the M test---I
failed!
I could not get around the cones with the 883 even at home, so I did not try that.
They would not let me use my 125cc bored out to 150cc Honda CB since it was registered
as a "less than 150cc" bike.
So I rented a Honda 150 Elite.
First they call the police on the guy renting it to a "minor".
After all that, I did less than perfect on the course (either the speedo is off
or I need glasses.) It didn't do any good to argue that I did not need my fogged
up visor down since the bike had a full windshield.
I passed the exact same test on one of the state supplied bikes in June. (If you
are 16 or 17, you must pass a second practical test 90 days after the written.)
I am told I can take it again in 90 days--my dad thinks I could take it again today
(the way he reads the regulations.)
At least I can still ride my Harley, so long as my dad is within 1/4 mile of me
on the Honda!

Why am I willing to bet this is the first test you have ever failed?

Gig,
You are right... but at least I deserved to fail... the next time I have to conduct
a test in front of police officers I won't be as nervous...
All kidding aside, it is a good lesson--read the vehicle manual before you ride,
even if it looks like a little kiddy ride.

Think of it as good practice for your private checkride next year.

Sabrina -
I wouldn't feel too bad about this test. When I took my motorcycle test
(more years ago than I care to think about) two of the perhaps ten of us
failed for very similar reasons. One guy showed up on chopper that could
barely turn around in the parking lot, much less make it through the cones.
The other guy that failed was on a drag bike that wouldn't go slow - it was
zero or one hundred for that thing. I felt bad for the kid on the Harley.
Not so much for the kid on the drag bike - that bike would have been suicide
on the road anyway.
I am sure you will pass the test next time without problem. If you can
build and fly your own plane then I am sure that riding a bike through some
cones won't prove to be too much of a problem.
Good luck!
