I have one of the Czech built 601 XL's.--There is- a fuel leak that a
ppears to be brownish in color, running down bottom of the wing, exiting th
e wing at the joining of the wing to the fuselage .. on the bottom, of cour
se.-It has dramatically worsened in the last 2 weeks-I am guessing it i
s the fuel line is deteriorating.. color of the fuel drip and have been usi
ng 93 octane auto- fuel as Rotax recommends.- I am grounded -until I
find a way to fix it.- Anyone else have a similar problem?- Any suggest
ions on fixing (remove wings, inspection plate- (where to put it and how
big) or any other ideas??- I earlier replaced a cracked fuel line on the
Rotax.. on startup after the winter, it literally spewed fuel on the canopy
... quick shutoff and no damage, but not a fun experience.-Thanks........

I'm looking for a less expensive source for these. I've got a lot more access
covers to install and I was very disappointed to see the price on the ones I like
has gone up greatly at ACS. They are now almost 2 dollars a piece! I think
the last time I purchased them they were around 20 cents a piece.
The ones I've been using are K1100-06. They are the "dimpled ones for receiving
flat head screws.

Jim,
I'm going to make some assumptions. First that the Czech built plane is like the
plans sold to builders. Second that the plane is not equipped with the auxiliary
tank option.
If those are true it shouldn't be too bad a job replacing the rubber fuel line
inside the wing.
There should be an access cover where the inboard end of the tanks is. This is
where the rubber line attaches to the fuel tank. You should be able to remove
the clamp that holds the line on through that access cover. (Of course you'll
drain the tank first) Then find the place inside the cabin where the line enters
the cabin. It might be under some sound proofing or upholstery. It should
enter just in front of the seat a few inches below top of the seat. It could
be a continuation of the rubber line or it may be attached to metal fuel line
at that point. Before you pull the old line out, attach the new line to it
so that you pull it through all the holes in the ribs as you remove the old
one. Attach the new line with new clamps.

Subject: | Re: centre wing measurement check (601-HD(S) ) |
Carlos,
Regarding your torque tube question on the HD, I had the same problem. I used
mock control cables (nylon string) to make sure that my support did not interfere
with the cable locations. Also, regarding any other areas that I had "issues"
where plan dimensions did not work off the top of my head... Aileron length
(not exactly 2400 MM), bottom outboard wing skin dimensions at the very tip,
and the rear center wing fairings (6 e 1-1 I believe). Any of the dimensions
that they give you for the wing tips are kind of sketchy at best, I just fit
my tips and marks what I needed to cut. Everything elese was pretty good.
If I had to grade the plans I'd still give them a solid B+ or A- for overall
accuracy wheras Id give the manual C+ or B- at best... It's very evident that
once the XL came along, priorities shifted and enhancements and cleanup to HD
or HDS plans fell all the way to the bottom, rightly so I guess.
Good luck, I can finally see the bottom of those big old boxes of rivets that came
with my kit and I'm looking forward to being done with deburring!
