I'm curious how you intend to support the pushrods. They are pretty long and so there is some potential for them buckling due to the length / slenderness ratio. If they attach directly to the horn, the ends will be moving is an arc - and so supporting the mid-part to stop buckling would be very difficult. Or is your intention to use a high enough length / slenderness ratio that compression loading is not a problem? -------- Pete Morris Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=276544#276544

To be a legal microlight in the UK the maximum empty weight is 268kg, somewhat short of numbers you are talking. The 472 figure also has to include a ballistic chute which adds a bit of weight. With full tanks an xl would be a single seater with the numbers you quote. Mine weighs 304kg empty. A UK microlight must be able to carry two 86kg people and an hours fuel - this is what leads to the 268kg empty weight restriction. -------- Pete Morris Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=276545#276545

Or is your intention to use a high enough length / slenderness ratio that compression loading is not a problem? Using 1 1/4" OD x 0.058" wall thickness works well in mine and with no problems due to buckling.I have also put edge protection around the lightening holes on the ribs which would stop the rods from bending too much, so to make the system more safe.I did have to re-do the bell crank throws using 4130 tangs to get the correct movement travel Cheers T87 Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=276617#276617

I have decided to use 1 1/4 .049 and it will need no support.... I am how ever also going to try and add elevator push pull tubes but the jury is ou t on the way I am going about it. The Bell crank is level but it doesn't look like it in the pictures so the push pull tube is not moving up and down at all. The throw is exactly the same as Zenith's Bell crank so the geometry works also. I am going to back the brackets up with a .125 plate with platenuts to remove the brackets and install a inspection plate to inspect the new bell crank. One problem I ran into is the elevator control at the stick will be in the way but I plan on adding a push/pull rod that goes to a aft bell crank an d attaches to the control tube and then either shorten the cables and re attach them to the new bell crank or add the push pull tubes. See how much fun you can have with a upgrade???????? I love this design st uff.... Subject: Agnos AR NTSB Pics are up
    From: "lwhitlow" <ldwhitlow@comcast.net>
Agnos AR NTSB Pics are up I saw them posted over on the zenith.aero site here http://www.zenith.aero/forum/topics/ntsb-photos-from-most-recent My question after viewing them is still the same as it was after seeing the Yuba City pictures What failed first?? The pics show the compression buckling in the rear spar at RR7 ( the rib that mounts the bell crank) and in other places inboard But the notes also indicate that the cables, bell crank, aileron push rod and aileron bracket were ripped out through the wing as the wing left the airframe and all remained attached to the fuselage. Could some of the noted damage have come from this stuff getting pulled through the wing?? I mean that bell crank is not gonna fit through the holes in the ribs and if it comes out that way could it cause the bends in the rear spar?? Pics of the interior of that wing would help. The score marks on the flap are also interesting. Enough upward force was put on the flap push it up past the stop so its upper leading edge made contact with the rivet bottoms in the rear spar. Or did the wing rear spar move down, with the flap held in place by the control arm thus causing the scars Again a pic of the rear spar doubler / mounting hole and the rear spar attach bracket would answer the question I would really like to see the failure mode of the main spar to center spar and the rear spar to rear attach You would think in this day and age with digital cameras what they are, there would be hundreds of pictures. I mean its only electrons Larry Whitlow Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=276667#276667

The score marks could easily have been made as the wing was in free fall and the flap was flapping on the way down... Are main spar root and center spar pictures available? Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=276671#276671
