Subject: | Re: Landing Gear |
I changed the landing on my 601XL yesterday. It was easier than expected.
Took about 40 minutes to turn the gear
around to place the flat side forward. My wings are off with the upgrade.
I placed a padded 2x8 across the fuselage
beneath the rear spar attach plates and two jacks held it up as you would
use a wheelbarrow. The aircraft is really
not very heavy at this point and in this condition. It requires
apporximately a 6 inch lift to remove the gear.
As Jonathan mentioned, use a square to mark the location of the new notches
on the opposite side of the gear so the
new notches are directly across from the old notches.

I also read an article about ice making vehicles at the Olympics. Seems
the environmentalists convinced the controlling group that the propane
powered Zamboni was not environmentally friendly and to use a prototype
electric ice machine. It was a total disaster. They finally had to bring
in a real (proven) Zamboni from Calgary. Reminded me immediately of WW's
cautions about unproven machinery.

Have you noticed that the area in the background of the NBC Nightly News is
a
seaplane base? If they got rid of the talking heads we could be watching a
spot
landing contest.

Subject: | Landing Gear Shock Cords |
I have the CH601HDS with tri-gear, and am getting ready to replace the shock
cords on the main gear. The gear has always been very stiff; particularly
noticeable on a grass runway. The kit came with 1080HD shock cords, which
is what I installed. Has anyone tried the standard 1080, rather than the
1080HD? If so, how did it work out? Any other options? No, I'm not going
to change to the spring landing gear. Wish I had it, too much work to
change.
Thanks Folks,

Subject: | Fuel flow transducer |
Using a Grand Rapids EIS, with the red cube fuel transducer. The instructions
recommend installing it after the pump, but Im planning on installing the pump
on my firewall... Why cant I install my transducer in the cockpit between the
gascolator and the firewall penetration? Space on my firewall is running low
and as much as I don't like adding fittings in the cockpit, I don't like the
transducer anywhere near the muffler since it will be difficult to firesleeve.
Thoughts???
