Gary, I got talked out of changing my gear around because it would move the brakes to the front - no problem - except the wheel pants would not fit. Are you going to relocate your brakes to the aft side? That will that weaken the gear leg at the place where it will have more material removed?? I would still like to do it because my C.G. is really aft with a heavy passenger and low fuel. With a 200 pounder in the right seat i have to land with at least 6 gallons of fuel on board. Hi Jim, I've also got the 1080HD cords and the strut caps stick up about 3/8ths inch with me in the plane, 1/4 inch without. My mains are responsive in a bumped landing to the tune of about 2 inches max and seem easy to move during taxi. My 601HDS has nylon guides in the top and bottom of the wings. Just changed out the main shock cords after 2 years because I'd slightly damaged them during disassembly for paint. I think the main spring gear on the XLs is much heavier than the strut type HD series and imposes adverse shock loads into the fuselage. Bob The front nose gear is the weakest point so I favor reducing its work load. For rough fields it will be nice to be able to land and takeoff on the mains. It takes too much finese to keep the nosewheel off the ground without reversing it. My brake calipers look fine on the front side. It will take some patch and paint to replace my wheel pants. The way that I originally drilled the bolt holes was to preserve the largest edge distance possible but it required some sculpting of the very end of the gear leg so I can not reverse the brake mounts. Until warmer weather I will fly it without pants. I have an HD with Jabiru and Grand Rapids. My gascolator is on the lower right engine side of the firewall. Have never had a vapor lock problem there. I installed the flow sensor between the fuel filter (after the gascolator) and the engine. I then mounted the sensor to an engine mount strut. Readings are normal, no interference with fuel flow and the fuel line is going ito the carb anyways. Jerry MHerder wrote: > >Using a Grand Rapids EIS, with the red cube fuel transducer. The instructions recommend installing it after the pump, but Im planning on installing the pump on my firewall... Why cant I install my transducer in the cockpit between the gascolator and the firewall penetration? Space on my firewall is running low and as much as I don't like adding fittings in the cockpit, I don't like the transducer anywhere near the muffler since it will be difficult to firesleeve. > > > >
