I'm thinking about ordering vinyl N-Numbers from here http://www.custom-vinyl-lettering.net/ and would like to have a little fancier font for the lettering. I've read through the Far's 45.2x and don't see anything prohibiting using other fonts. Does anyone have any experience is using different fonts for N-Numbers and would the attached style be a problem during inspection? -------- Rich Whittington Tullahoma, TN Zenith 601HDS Under Construction Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=291140#291140 Attachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/n_number_193.jpg

I too read the FAR's on what is legal and what isn't. I went with the dr op shadow design for my 801 and I am very happy with the look. On the fl ip side I have seen some bizzare color schemes and fonts and some set up s with contrasting colors that actually hid the N numbers. Some how it p assed the DAR or Faa's initial inspection so my take is they don't reall y nit pick on that... One other thing.... I did shop the price on gettin g them made, some aircraft vendors were in the 200+ dollar range. I took my idea to the local decal/ sign shop. they made them for 75 bucks and they looked so good I gave them a 25 dollar tip. It depends on the inspector. As I recall Scott Laughlin got a guy from the FAA who was very unhappy with Scott's italic font. You could probably quote from the regs but it isn't an argument I'd like to have on inspection day. -- Craig -----Original Message----- From: owner-zenith-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-zenith-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Wingrider Sent: Sunday, March 21, 2010 6:36 AM Subject: Zenith-List: N Numbers I'm thinking about ordering vinyl N-Numbers from here http://www.custom-vinyl-lettering.net/ and would like to have a little fancier font for the lettering. Mel Asberry would be a good resource. He went to battle with the FAA ove r three inch N-numbers on experimentals and won. My friend was awoken by the police yesterday morning (3-20-2010). A small plane had landed in the field by his house. No casualties reported. Here is what he posted: "Woke up yesterday to the cops banging on the door, two cop cars two fire trucks and one ambulance in my driveway, ohh and this in the field beside the house. No one hurt, six hours experience on the pilot, his homemade handy work----lost all his oil and converted into glider, ducked under the power lines and hit the fence." Appears that it was not a bad landing. Anyone you walk away form is a good landing. If you can reuse the airplane it is a great landing.
