Subject: | Re: counterweight |
I have done 4 of these now and if you try and make it fit while it is held
in place with cleco's it won't be the same once riveted. the tightening of
the hinge to the rear spar changes the angle of the aileron and if it is
set at 97 degrees it will give you about 1/2 of an inch clearance once rigged
and the most important thing to do is set the deflection properly 11.5 +/-
1 degree. I set my new ribs 227 mm and not the 327 called for in the plans
and that gives good clearance at the tips. I don't agree with the hinge
less ailerons having counter weights so all my ailerons are converted to
hinged. And you can still pull the pin and test fit the aileron counterweight
arm as it will be and not just held with cleco's.
I have also taken some pictures of the hinge less conversion and will post
them soon.

Subject: | Rotec TBI on Corvair |
I have installed the Rotec TBI on my 601 with a corvair and after a lot of
ground running it works very well. I have made a very tight air box with
carb heat. I plan to fly this in the morning. I added an electric primer to
the intake logs and three short pushes of the primer gives me a half blade
start. I have been running this without a filter so it will more than likely
run a little richer and better with a filter.
If some one can post this to corvaircraft to let them know of the Rotec
feel free.

Hi Jeff,
Your post really confused me.
My comments, and I presume some of the other folks' comments on this
subject, were meant to apply to hingeless ailerons. I really don't know
what happens to hinged ailerons in this process.
Still, I don't understand why Clecos yield different results from rivets.
Perhaps you are not applying the Clecos to the same point as the final
rivets?
Why do think there is a problem with counter weights being used with
hingeless ailerons? This is what the upgrade design specifically calls for.
Thanks,
Paul
