I stopped bu ilding my 601XL when I felt there was a good chance mandated upgrades woul d be coming, and I was right. I have the upgrade kit and, since I stopped building 1/2 way through the right wing I'm in a very good place to rewor k the spars with a minimum of disassembly. However, going forward, I need to make a few choices, and I'm pretty certain the official upgrade to a 651XL will be a good step with regards to product acceptance, insurabilit y, and possibly resale when I'm too old to fly. >From what I think to be true: - I need a new set of plans from Zenith. If I give them my old serial num ber they may cut me a deal on a new set of plans....... - I'll have to scrap my rudder and build a new one for the 651XL - I do not have to do any changes to my horizontal stabilizer or the wings once I complete the upgrade - I'll order the 651 fuselage, canopy, and landing gear kits, and I'll be flying in about 10 years....LOL ! Can anyone set me straight on anything incorrect and how I can/should fix it? As always, I appreciate all of you out there that dedicate the time and kn owledge that make this board so very helpful to us all. And, Congratulations Sabrina on making the front page ! Can you post a li nk to the complete article? The link previously posted did not work when I tried it. Again, thanks in advance.. I'm sure there have been many update conversions completed by now. I'm wondering, has anyone found anything bent, pulled, loose or otherwise different than when you first assembled your aircraft? I may have missed posts on the issue over the last few months but feel the info relevant in finding a smoking gun.. This change is purely cosmetic and provides no aerodynamic improvement and no improvement to performance. In fact, the less sweep back the vertical stabilizer has, the better it will function at the speeds this airplane flys at. Cessna actually lost some performance on their airplanes when they started sweeping the vertical tails back on them because they had to make them larger to overcome the loss in efficiency. The larger tail has more drag. The change was made to improve the looks of the airplane. I have finally made the painful decision to sell Lil Bruiser, my Zodiac 60 1XL, as is, where is. It was damaged in a pasture landing accident. Sinc e I know I will never fly it, I just can't get up whatever it takes to rep air it myself. The nose gear hit a berm, bent the nose gear strut, bent the firewall, cabin floor and cowling sheet metal. The prop was stopped horizontally, so the wonderful William Wynne built Corvair engine and War p Drive prop were not damaged. It was a fully functional airplane, regist ered as Experimental - Amateur Built, and flown only about three hours. It has a TruTrack single-axis autopilot, Dynon engine monitor, ICOM radio, Narco transponder, Softcomm intercom and steam gauge flight instruments. It is for sale for $25,000. Adding $5,000 in parts and about 500 hours labor will result in a $50,000 or $60,000 airplane for $30,000. I will throw in the upgrade kit, still in the original packaging. Anyone intere sted can contact me off line for a complete list of installed equipment, photos or whatever you might need. You can also contact me by phone at 214-351-4757. Thanks, Jay Bannister, Dallas, TX ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 05:12:08 PM PST US Subject: Zenith-List: Re: Found anything out of the ordinary?
