    Subject: Alieron Trim
Hi Guys, Having flown a few hours now, I find that, as expected, with full flap deployed the elevator trim "bottoms out" before balanced trim is available. I had a look at the LAA (UK) solution but found that my elevator trim tab is already at max downward travel and butts up against the elevator. Changing the tab horn would not make any difference to the travel available. I have an O-200 fitted and expect there is a little more weight up front than a Jab or similar. What have others done? I am thinking of adding a tab to the existing trim tab to increase its size, therefore providing more effect on the elevator. Cheers Peter Wonthaggi Australia http://zodiac.cpc-world.com

Peter: A little bit of info from an experience I had. Granted this is not a Zenith aircraft (RV-6). Check the deployment of the flaps. Make sure they go DOWN and UP equally. What I found was one flap deployed more than the other and a small roll was induced. Also had the same problem when the flaps were full UP. Next thought: With the flaps deployed you may be getting BLANKETING of the Horz Stab which makes the trim less or ineffective. DOUBLE Check the amount of deployment. More is NOT always better. Peter, I echo Scotsman's comment on possibly re-pitching the H-stab. But first, in cruise flight, do you have a significant trim tab deflection?? I did. I re-pitched the leading edge down until the trim tab was neutral in cruise and it gave me more trim authority with flaps full down. Good luck, Dave G. -------- David Gallagher 601 XL/Jabiru 3300 First flight 7/24/08 Upgraded 3/19/10 120+ hours and climbing! Thanks Guys, I have the full trim tab but will add a tab to it and see how it goes. I have full authority everywhere else except full flap on finals. Cheers Peter -----Original Message----- From: owner-zenith601-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-zenith601-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Bryan Martin Sent: Friday, 14 May 2010 10:03 PM Subject: Re: Zenith601-List: Alieron Trim --> Zenith601-List message posted by: Bryan Martin <bryanmmartin@comcast.net> I riveted a sheet of aluminum onto my trim tab that just about doubled its area. The sheet is bent downward over the trailing edge of the trim tab to provide even more trim. I have the original small trim tab that just spans between two of the elevator ribs. I still can't trim out the plane with full flaps unless I have a full load and aft CG, but I usually don't use full flaps until short final anyway so I don't mind it much. I also have a bungee cord attached to the stick that provides some nose up trim. It's just enough to balance the weight of the elevator (the bungee holds the elevator in the neutral position on the ground).
