      Hello guys!

I have been at MIT for four weeks now and everything is going great. The flight
testing with my top mounted struts is now complete and they have been removed.
They will be replaced with cable. In the meantime, I de-rated the airframe
to 1200 pounds, Normal Category, Vne 138, Va 92 MPH.

I have added a 2 .032 extension to the 0-200A lower rear cowl lip and have seen
cylinder/oil temperatures come down significantly on warm days without any adverse
      effect upon climb/cruise.

I am currently designing and will install a cable or cables in lieu of the solid
struts. They will use the same outboard mounts and may use the inboard mounts
or may pass through the cabin as a single cable. After flight testing with
the cable(s), I hope to raise the rated gross weight back to 1320.

My maximum demonstrated crosswind is 24, Vso 46 MPH.

I scored a rare perfect score on the all hands math for physics test at MIT and
passed every advanced standing exam I sat for. Classes themselves are going
very well. I am also learning to sail.

If you guys had a choice of flying a 10 Electra, a 247 or a DC3 around the world
next June, which aircraft would you pick and why?

      Miss you all!

      Hi Sabrina,

I'm glad to hear things are going well for you at MIT.

I still hope you will install the "Approved" upgrade to your Zodiac one of these
      days.

24 mph crosswind is very high for a Zodiac. That sounds like around half the stall
speed. Normal maximum for any plane is around 1/3 stall speed.

The last woman who tried to fly around the world in an Electra didn't make it.
Word has it she was either captured by the Japanese or died missing her island
destination and failing to complete the trip swimming. Of course she flew East
to West. I hope you choose the other way so the winds help. I also hope
you bring a GPS along for the ride instead of depending on a nice young man with
      dead reckoning.

I don't know what a 247 is. I'm sure a gooney bird could make it but at a maximum
cruise of 135 mph it will take a really long time and a lot of gas (around
      100 Gph?).

      Good luck,

      Paul
      XL still upgrading second wing.

| Subject: | 601XL Corvair combo for sale $10,000 |

Me and my wife are getting a divorce and I am having to sell everything.
I have a 601XL that has been completed to past the quick build stage. It
has dual sticks, strobes, etc. 12 gal tanks installed. I also have a
completed corvair engine with all WW FWF components except the middle cowling.

It has the nose cone though. Mount, exhaust, new carb, intake,
distributor, everything is there. It has a Warp drive prop with it. I am going
      to
try and sell it for what I owe on the 2 and that is $10,000. If anyone is
interested, please email me off list. You can call me at 541-420-8037 and
leave a message if you want. I work graveyards and I am going through a
tough time, so I will call when I can. The engine is top notch as well as the

construction on the airframe. I am located in Central Oregon. I have an
18 X 10 trailer that I will through in if someone takes the bird. It is a
good double axle trailer. Let me know.
