Subject: | glue for rubber floor mat? |
I'm trying to re-glue a thin rubber floor mat.
Any suggestions on a glue?
An alternative would be to attach velcro to the mat & floor, allowing
for easier access, but it often seems that velcro holds better than
the glue it is attached with. Grit does get down there and needs to
be vacuumed out from time to time.
Just the way I sit in the HDS, I put a lot of pressure on the mat at
my heels, any time I move in the seat, pushing the floor mat into the
pedals unless the mat is well secured.

A product I've used repeatedly, with excellent results, for the last 20 years
or so, is Duraseam aircraft trim cement. Airtex,
http://www.airtexinteriors.com/ sells it. It was $12 per pint, the last time I
checked.

I believe you could use Velcro dots for the thin rubber mat. I put thin
soundproofing down that way and then a thin carpet on top of that. The
carpet just meets the
Surface of the heel plate channel and works well in my HDS.

The best adheasive I have found is "Weldwood contact cement". It even holds in
the heat of the desert where all others fail.
Use according to the directions on the can. Both surfaces must be dry before you
put it in place. They have been glueing counter tops down with it for many years.
The only problem with it is when it makes contact with the surface you are
glueing to, it can't be moved, cuz it it's stuck tight!

Some cars have a hook near the front of the driver seat where the carpet
hooks on to, thus preventing the carpet from sliding forward.
Actually, the hook is more like a short cylinder, say 15 mm diameter, 5 mm
high, and the carpet has a circular, reinforced hole that matches the
cylinder.
