Subject: | Re: Removing tank filler during rebuild |
I carved a piece of Oak that I had lying around to conform as closely as possible
to the shape of the slots in the filler. I then used a couple of C clamps
to attach a two foot piece of 2 x 4 to the top so it was in the shape of a T.
After that the trick is breaking the threads free.
I don't know what "Zenith recommends" but I used a teflon paste as a sealer and
thread lube - I had experienced galling in my first go with filler necks and
destroyed one in the process.
I don't know if heat would help or not. You might try a careful application using
a heat gun but I'd give it a shot without heating it first.
Good luck!
Tim

I installed my fuel tank senders (capacitance type) with proseal and this is the
first I've heard of any problems with it. My plane isn't finished yet and I'm
currently modifying the wings with the upgrade kit. Should I be concerned
about the long-term stability of the proseal? I'm not real interested in opening
the wing again any time soon.

Hey Joe, anything new on the Oshkosh 2011 front? I won't have my plane finished
by Oshkosh this year but I will be attending and camping in Camp Scholler (I
hosted the Zenith campfire last year.) Any luck with arranging for a Zenith
builder area in Camp Scholler?
Thanks for going to bat for us.

I've been interested in capacitance fuel probes. Where did you get yours?
How did you do the install? Are you using an EFIS to read them?

Subject: | Re: FUEL TANK SEALANTS |
I got them from Skysports which I think has been bought out by Aircraft Spruce.
They used to be located at an airport in mid-Michigan.
I installed the probe in the outboard end of the tank - it has a aluminum tube
the length of the tank (you can trim them) and is bent first up and then down
diagonally to read the fuel level. I attached a nylon tip to it so it can't
bounce and short out inside the tank.
There are adjustment screws for Empty and Full and you can attach it to a digital
engine monitor or analog gauge - whatever works. You feed it 12 volts and
the voltage output varies from 0 for empty to 5 for full as I recall.
Mine is not connected to anything as yet although I did test it with a voltmeter
and it seems to function as advertised.
If you want more info I probably have some pix. Just send me an email.
