I don't have one but I have to ask what happened to the original? I just finished installing mine and I'm still scared something will happen to it. -----Original Message----- From: Wes or Lurlene Bressler <bressler@wyoming.com> Sent: Tue, Mar 29, 2011 2:49 pm Subject: Zenith-List: 601 canopy Listers: Does anyone out there have a used 601 XL canopy they would sell? Please pardon me for chiming in here. I have a small crack in mine about midway back on the pilot side. It just appeared and was about one inch long. I stop drilled it and thought all was well. I noticed this past weekend that it has advanced about another inch and a half straight up. I will again stop drill. Does anyone know what will bond in the crack and will flow like water so it will seep down the crack and not have a build-up. If I keep drilling stop holes, that thing will start whistling like a pipe organ! Can't have that!! Thanks for letting me intrude. Rick, Be aware that you have to stop drill just beyond the end of the crack, not right at the end. Don't ask how I know (Confession: I did find out the har d way, after three holes). My crack was located such that I was able to el iminate it with an acrylic air vent. Rick: Here is the procedure to save the canopy: 1. After Stop-Drilling the crack -DE-BUR - the Stop-Drilled holes. Use a sharp counter bore or a sharp de-burring tool. 2. Clean the entire area with* *isopropyal alcohol. 3. Let it dry throughly. 4. Get or make a VERY FINE paintbrush with natural hairs. You want a nic e sharp point with the hairs. 5. Get clean - MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone). 6. Mask off the area around the crack - Not needed if you have a steady hand AND do not rush. 7. VERY carefully - With a steady hand - Brush the MEK directly into the crack and stop-drilled holes. 8. The MEK because it is thinner than water wick right into the crack. 9. The MEK will then dissolve the plastic and melt the halves together. 10. Thats it... You are done. And if you do not over do the quantity of MEK the joint will become almost transparent. Rick, Google acrylic glue and you'll see a good selection of inexpensive products (averse the Aircraft Spruce options). Most are locally available at hardware stores.
