Hey guys,
Great news, N5886Q took to the skies again today after installation of aileron
mass balance weights. I spec'd 75 gram 1/4"x 3/4" steel weights. It took 20
weights total (along with a couple 1/16" and .040 shims), 11 on the pilot side,
9 on the co-pilot side. My test pilot reports heavier ailerons towards full
deflection with a greater tendency to return to neutral. It handled 15 gusting
to 25 at 320 on KARR rw36 very well.
I am now working at Boeing Phantom Works. Boeing has given me the entire week
of Air Venture off! I arrive in Chicago on the 22nd and depart for LA on the
31st.
My first year at MIT went very well. I made it K-13 with perfect attendance and
straight As. My overall average was 98% for the year. I was named one of
the top seven freshman. I will return in September as a Physics major with plans
to do a double major in Aero/Astro.
Hope to see you guys at Air Venture!
Your little buddy,
Sabrina

Congratulations, Sabrina.
I'm glad you are doing so well. I'm also glad to hear you decided to
balance your ailerons.
I'm within a day or two (maybe?) of my first engine start. I've had
last minute issues come up with flaps, brakes, and fuel system. My fuel
tank quick drains turned out instead to be slow leaks. The drain valves
came with an extra O-ring at the bottom which was not fuel compatible
and they rotted on both tanks.
I hope to see you at OSH. I'll be arriving there on Tuesday and leaving
Sunday.

I totally understand. Just thought I would ask. I had an EA-81 on the
601HDS I built. I sold that plane to a flying club in Australia. They
had an engine out over the bush due to a failure in the system that
circulated water to cool the engine. Fortunately the plane did a forced
landing without incident and the pilot walked away without injury. A
person very familiar with engines said it was a design flaw and nothing
I did wrong on the engine install. This pleased me to my install but
still caused grave concern as I never really did
=9Cunderstand=9D the engine.
This go around I am going with William Wynne=99s Corvair
conversion.
I hope all is well in your world.
Steve

I had some issues with the Soob that I will share openly with anyone

it part and learn more about engines. I would pay for freight if you

One nice thing with Mr Whynne is that part of his selling process is to get
you understand the engine..=C2- Very different approach than the old Soo
b converters that used to sell this the same way as you would sell a certif
ied aircraft engine.=0A=C2-=0Ado not archive.=0A=0A----------------------
