Hi Michel,
You ask about how long we have been flying our 601HDS.
The expert builder Mel Asberry and I finished the 601HDS in Dec 1995
after 18 months of construction. First flight was in January 1996.
Since then, in particular during the first 7 years,
I made a lot of changes, described on the website
http://utdallas.edu/~klaus/Airplane/airplane.html
TTAE is 1413 hrs.
At this time, I really like the way the plane flies. It is an
economical, simple, reliable, rugged airplane.
When throttled back, we do 90 kts burning 3.3 gal per hour.
The nose gear bungee wears rather rapidly. We notice
this by fraying of the bungee chord, but also when the tension of the
rudder cables is reduced on the ground. This is part of our
preflight check. We have replaced the bungee chord roughly
every 5 years. In contrast, the main gear bungees are still
original and show no sign of wear.
Happy flying,
Klaus
