I'm considering a location on the bottom of the aircraft, just behind the center spar and under the seat area. The advantages of that location seem to be a short coax run, minimizing signal loss. The disadvantages might be shadow effect on the ground. I would appreciate your thoughts before I drill holes. Thanks. Radio antennae went thru the back top skin and returns opposite side from the transponder cable. Coaxial signals don't affect each other this way. No complaints from ATC yet about being able to see me. -------- David Gallagher Zodiac 601 XL-B: flying, 200+ hours now Next project under construction: Aircamper Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=364251#364251 ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 05:20:40 PM PST US From: Paul Mulwitz Subject: Re: Zenith-List: Transponder antenna location Hi Larry, I put mine behind the seats in the middle of the bottom skin. I wouldn't lose any sleep about signal loss in the coax cable. I have had my transponder certified and used it with ATC with no complaints from anyone. That's where it is on most factory built planes. I don't understand your concerns about shadow effects on the ground, the transponder isn't used on the ground for the most part. It's for signaling your position in the air. -- Bryan Martin N61BM, CH 601 XL, RAM Subaru, Stratus redrive. do not archive. ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 09:46:25 PM PST US From: Larry Winger Subject: Re: Zenith-List: Transponder antenna location Thanks, guys. Bryan, you're right about shadow effects. Not an issue. Back to drilling.
