Good morning listers.
Can anyone suggest/recommend is there a "best" placement for the transponder
antenna? I am building a CH650 and was planning on putting it on the center
line in the general area of the brake pedals.
Also, is there a way (short of speaking to tower) that I can verify the
altitude my transponder is broadcasting?
Any help or advice is certainly appreciated.

Hi Steve,
I put my transponder and comm antennas behind the seats on the fuselage
bottom. I think it will get crowded if you put the antennas and
associated mounts and cables in with the rudder pedals.
You are required to have your transponder certified by an avionics shop
before turning it on in the NAS. This verifies all the signals are
clean and accurate. You can get a VFR or IFR certification. It must be
repeated at regular intervals (2 years?).

Hi Steve,
I placed my transponder on belly center behind the seats. Ease of access and
all.

I put mine under the left seat with the cable routed along one side of the rudder
cable tunnel. I can reach the antenna connection from the spar bolt access
panel. The general recommendation is to put it on the belly at least three feet
from any other antennas.
The Transponder/ altitude encoder is required to be certified every two years.

My internship at CERN was amazing, Europe was great, and I am now back home for
the first time since April.
For those of you who attended AirVenture, how was it?
Here is the de-briefing for Summer 2012: http://prezi.com/-8uyyds4qqjn/summer-2012/?auth_key=1f3989065d1f47a88d5b2cb1671adb5ad4c7ac32
Steve--if you can find someone who will loan you an older version of the TPAS Proximity
detector, it will roll through your altitude and the code you are squawking
when you ping your transponder with no other aircraft nearby.
