Subject: | Fuel line Questions |
Hi List,
After much homework I found out a few things about this.
1) For the newer Lycoming engine the fuel pump has a proprietary part
that
fits the intake and outflow for the fuel pump. The part number is
LW-16562.
Good freaking luck finding this anywhere in the country. I must have
spoken
to 30 part houses and no one had any in stock. Quickest delivery time
was 3
to 6 weeks. The price of this is $76. Pretty steep for what is
essentially
an AN fitting with a compression washer. Be warned though, regular AN
fittings WILL NOT work.
2) Step in Van=92s Aircraft. I was looking through their catalogue for
something unrelated and ran across part umber KB-000 which is the EXACT
same
thing as the Lycoming part but sells for $5.00. It was in stock and
shipped
the same day. Some cool stuff in this catalogue. Not to be a ZAC
traitor
but this is a good thing to have on your shelf.
I wonder if I would have had any better luck simply talking to one of
the
A&P on the field where my project is coming together.
This was quite a lesson in the world of finding parts in the world of
certified engines. Cost was crazy, many of the suppliers won=92t even
talk to
you. But props need to go out to Poplar Grove Aviation (Poplar Grove
Airmotive in Illinois. The phone number is 815 544 3471.) Kurt was
amazingly helpful and finally found me the Lycoming part and was
gracious
enough to cancel the order after I was able to find it for $71 less
dollars
from Van=92s. Steve from <http://www.kitplanehoses.com>
www.kitplanehoses.com was also incredibly helpful=85and he deserves
extra
thanks.
I know it might seem like I am gushing. But you would not believe how
much
time I spent trying to find these. It was nuts.
Steve

Subject: Zenith-List: Fuel line Questions
Hi List,
I am trying to run fuel lines from firewall to mechanical fuel pump on
my
(new) 0235-N2C engine and I am running in to a couple of challenges. I
am
hoping you guys can help.
I am trying to use the nice aluminum AN connectors. One issue is the
size
that seems appropriate screws all the way and never really tightens
until it
gets to the very last thread. If you look at the pump where this
connector
goes it looks like it is machined to take some type of O ring or rubber
grommet/gasket.
Also, the fitting for the hose would seem to =93naturally=94 be for a ID
of 3/8.
Everything else in the ZAC world is for =BC=94 ID on the fuel hose and
parts
they supply. It seems to me I will need some type of step or step down
to
mate from the firewall connector to the fuel pump. Unless there is a AN
connector that will fit in to the fuel pump that has a 1/5 in hose barb.
Does anyone (especially anyone flying behind an 0235) have any pictures
of
how their fuel lines connect to the fuel pump? Or do you have any
suggestions for the proper AN parts?
I am having a lot of fun but it seems like I keep running into road
blocks
and gotchas!
Steve
