Subject: | Diagnosis of failed Rotax 912/914 Generator and Regulator/Rectifier |
Hi,
A bit more than a year ago, the Rotax 912 generator
of my Zenith 601HDS quit charging on a
cross-country trip from Pecos, TX to Deming , NM.
The voltage dropped gradually, but I made it to the destination .
It turned out that nobody at the airpor t kn ew how to deal with the problem .
But friend Philip , who f ortun ately lives not far from that airport, came and
helped
on short notice. We got a phone link to a Rotax specialist in Florida
who guided us through a testing procedure . It turned out that most likely
the regula tor/rectifier had failed. A new regulator/rectifier fixed the problem,
as predicted.
Recently , I decided to assemble a short write-up that guides the
user through the testing procedure of the ge nerator and
regulator/rect i fier. The test steps requir e only a volt/ohm meter.
If you have a Rotax 912/914 engine and want to print a copy, go to

If you have suggestions for improvement of the document, please send them , and
I will incorporate them into the document for the benefit of other Rotax drivers.
Hap py flying,
Klaus
