    Subject: thimble+cable eye?
Hello, folks When you swage a cable, you *always* use a thimble, right? When swaging a cable that goes through a turnbuckle's cable eye, I am feeling a little uncomfortable with the idea of deforming the thimble to put it through cable eye hole... Just want to make sure I am not doing anything wrong... Thanks in advance for any comments Carlos

Hi Carlos, Yes, I believe you should always use a thimble on cable loops. I wouldn't worry about the thimble being a little deformed. The point is to keep the wear from destroying the cable. The thimble takes the abuse that would otherwise start breaking cable strands. Paul Camas, WA XL collecting dust and getting lonely. Always use a thimble! You have to spread the thimble a little to get it thr ough the eye of the pin but then gently squeeze back together with pliers af ter. There is a really good article on swaging cables in Kit Planes magazine this month. Steve Freeman 877-733-4390 Sent from my Mobile device. Please excuse the brevity and any typing errors. You are correct. Bending the thimble a little is necessary to get it into the eye. I try and pry the thimble open with a screw driver just enough to get it through the eye without bending it to much then I install the cable through it and swedge it. When crimping I keep the thimble from coming in direct contact with the nico press collar. Some people run them up tight together. Good luck On Nov 23, 2013 8:04 PM, "Carlos Sa" <carlossa52@gmail.com> wrote: > Hello, folks > > > When you swage a cable, you *always* use a thimble, right? > When swaging a cable that goes through a turnbuckle's cable eye, I am > feeling a little uncomfortable with the idea of deforming the thimble to > put it through cable eye hole... > > Just want to make sure I am not doing anything wrong... > > Thanks in advance for any comments > > > Carlos > > * > > * > >

Another way to get the thimble through the little hole is to twist it so the ends are not facing each other. This allows you to insert it and then just twist it back.
