When attaching an elbow fitting (
http://www.aircraftspruce.ca/catalog/hapages/an822.php) to a fuel valve (or
anything else, for that matter), how can you have it oriented in a
particular direction AND ensure it is leak-free?

Carlos, I could not use that fitting.with the Andair fuel
selector valve, tighten leak free and get the proper orientati
on. I eventually used banjo fittings to get the proper or
      ientation. -- Jay=0A =0A=0A =0A=0A =0A=0A-----Original Message

      Great question Carlos:

Here are some points to follow:
1 - Use a Fuel Proof Thread Sealant. This is especially true when dealing
with similar metals being tightened together - Example: Aluminum to
      Aluminum.
If this is the case then Galling becomes an issue.

2 - Since you are dealing with pipe threads you only need a 3 thread
engagement for a seal to be good. So, what you then use is the ADDITIONAL
rotation/thread engagement for the lining up.

3 - This part is a bit more difficult and requires lots of additional
thought... Replace the NPT with some other type of thread arrangement.
Maybe a UNION, or a flair fitting.

Side note: It is always best if you can stay away from 90 Deg bends in a
fuel system. Each bend reduces the flow rate and can cause caviation.
Smooth round bends are best. Yes, I know when all else fails sometimes you
are forced to go the route of 90 deg bends.

      Barry, thanks, that makes sense.
