Hello Paul,
I selected the nova electronics wing-tip light units, these
have a central control unit and shielded cables from that
unit to the two wing tips. I weighted the EMI causing radio
noise and requiring a shielded cable versus the additional
weight in the wing tips and decided for the central unit.
The Nav lights in this setup are both LED based.

Hello Ron,
I just don't have such a nice electronic logbook, my book
is an old fashioned notebook with some of my pictures glued
in it. Looking back in the book I see that I started the
first form block in November 2006, but I actually started
placing ribs in the right spar in October 2007. So I should
be able to complete this wing before the end of the year.

Subject: | Building your CH601XL Builder's series DVDs |
HomebuiltHELP is announcing the first in a series of builder video DVDs
that provide a step by step demonstration of building the CH601XL kit.
The first volume, a 2 DVD set, is entitled: Fuselage Part 1 and is now
available. Additional volumes will follow and be announced here.
Details and sample pictures from the video are available at
http://homebuilthelp.com/CH601XL/fuselage1.htm
The fuselage build depicted in this series was supervised by Gus Warren,
who has built several 601s including the one on the Kitplanes cover last
year. (www.FlyWithGus.com)
Many thanks to all! Our goal is to make your building experience a
little more enjoyable!

I spent a ton of time agonizing over this as well.
In my case, what really started costing me time was a new digital level that I
started using that is accurate to within .1 of a degree. I found myself continuously
doing, redoing, redoing, and redoing again in futile attempts to get everything
within .1 of a degree of everything else.
At that level of accuracy I think the expansion of metal in my shop (winter temperates
well below zero at night to heated temperatures of ~60 degrees on a daily
basis) come into play. Or maybe phases of the moon or something. I could
get everything perfect, walk away and come back the next day and stuff would
be .1 or .2 degrees off.
IMHO, accuracy is important, but these are not Mach 3 fighter planes we're building,
and it's very easy to waste time beyond the point of diminishing returns
in the quest for accuracy that is not obtainable by the human hand...

Rob:
My tabs have a little wiggle in them and it is not noticeable in flight. I
don't remember having much play in any of the holes, but when you put it all
together and add up all the little play in each moving part (including the
hinge) it all adds up to a little wiggle. There's a good lesson or three in
this that I tell everyone building -
1. Drill a test hole in a scrap part and try it first,
2. Cut all panels a little large and test fit first (for plans builders) and
3. Do a test bend on the brake on a scrap piece before making the final
bend on a large part.
One note about the trim tab since I was flying yesterday and noticed this
again. It is hard to trim out for level flight with a quick touch of the
button. It is just that sensitive and maybe it moves too fast. If there
were a way to slow it down I'd probably try it. I use the standard RAC
servo called out on the plans.
My elevator tab is the large version that I re-made after seeing one at
Sun-n Fun.
First one: http://www.cooknwithgas.com/3_23_03_Trimtab.jpg
Secone try: http://www.cooknwithgas.com/5_8_05_Trim.jpg
It works well and I wouldn't recommend flying without the elevator trim. I
don't use the aileron trim but I haven't flown without someone in the right
seat so we will see.
