I don't think moisture had anything to do with it. It was only wrapped a few hours
before it broke. I installed it because my original exhaust was too close
to the cowl and it was getting very hot. Part of the fiberglass was turning
brown. The new headers are a lot further away from the cowl and everything is
cooler now.
When I built my first headers, William was not selling headers - just the stubs.
His new headers won't fit my setup anyway because I built my own engine mount.
I had to fabricate my own intake and exhaust system because William's parts
don't fit my engine mount.
If you are installing a Corvair, buying Williams parts is the way to go. I didn't
have that luxury because he was just getting going on the 601 back then.
I do have 60 flight hours on my airplane that I may not have if I had waited.
Yes, we are having a lot of rain and wind. N5SL is safely tucked away in a dry
hangar thankfully.
