    Subject: Tailpipe attachments
AMD uses a pair of clamps to attach the tailpipe to the engine mount right at the cowling. One clamp goes on the tailpipe itself, and the other on the engine mount tubing. Both of mine on the engine mount (both sides) broke on the way home; we discovered this when we had the cowling off to change the oil. One clamp had departed the aircraft, and the other was held on on one side only and flopping loose. Garry at AMD said that was there to provide some extra support for the tailpipe. My mechanic said that he didn't see why it was there, and he recommended just leaving it off; Garry agreed that that would work fine. Comments? What's everyone else doing? -- Jay Maynard, K5ZC http://www.conmicro.com http://jmaynard.livejournal.com http://www.tronguy.net Fairmont, MN (FRM) (Yes, that's me!) Looks nice Gig, Did you rebuild it yourself? Did you make or buy the engine mount? Gig Giacona wrote: > I've been on a build hold waiting on me William Wynne built Corvair engine to arrive.
