In the certified world this would be easy. You would have to fix it. I'm not sure what the rules are on a factory built LSA. In the WW Corvair conversion there is no support for the exhaust pipes. And I've seen many certified planes that don't have supports. What I'd do is look at a couple of C-150s that have the same engine and see if they have them. I'm pretty sure you can get away without them. The O-200 is nothing if not overbuilt. One thing that would change my opinion on that is if there are mufflers on the ends of the pipes. If there are that is some additional weight hanging out on the end that might need support. Either way you go I'd tell AMD to send you some new mounts just to have no matter if you use them or not. That is the advantage of buying a new airplane. jmaynard wrote: > AMD uses a pair of clamps to attach the tailpipe to the engine mount right > at the cowling. Do you know if repairs or support is available for the Navaid now that they are out of business? Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=189830#189830

Hey Jim: congratulations on your new XL. I recommend that you attach the tail pipes to the engine mount using a rubber piece (like a piece of tire) We use this on Alon aircraft to reduce the vibration and increase the longevity. Ask AMD if they will state, in writing, that the clamps are not necessary. It will give you an avenue to pursue if your insurance company uses this modification to decline coverage if something should happen (there are too many fuel lines nearby and a heat muff hanging way downstream to not worry about a crack developing upstream due to a lack of support.) The large barrel mufflers Cessna used on the O-200A have a cross support, other certified O-200A mufflers, such as the pancake exhausts I used, do not, but then again they project down and not back. So too, mine are faired whereas the force imparted upon those long exposed AMD tailpipes at 120 knots can't help the situation. If those clamps are falling off with brand new plugs, can you imagine what will happen to them with the vibrations caused by fouled plugs? Is AMD using automotive plugs or FAA/PMA approved spark plugs? http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=HuhCEX4_Y_I Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=189841#189841 Attachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/tailpipes_167.jpg

    Subject: Problem Solving Ideas
    From: "Ron Lendon" <rlendon@comcast.net>
Here is an idea that worked for me today. The problem was how to align pilot holes in an already drilled #21 rivet hole. I riveted my top skin and as I was doing it I remembered the wing locker. I had already drilled the skin and ribs for black clecoes and ended up skip riveting around the wing locker area. Later I drilled out the skip (every other) rivets and had to place and clamp the dzus strips and get the pilot holes right in the center of the large hole. I made a bushing and used it to locate the pilot drill right in the center. All I had to do is setup the lathe and machine a step with a .155" dia in a piece of .5" dia. steel rod about .5" long with a through hole of 3/32"dia. The step is only .025" (material thickness). I hold this flush and drill through the bushing and the hole comes right on the center of the larger hole. Once the pilot hole is in I just opened them in the conventional manner. -------- Ron Lendon, Clinton Township, MI Corvair Zodiac XL, ScrapBuilder ;-) http://www.mykitlog.com/rlendon Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=189846#189846

Congrats... get your PP so you can take your daughter with you. The best Augusts I remember are the ones my dad and I just flew where the winds took us... (of course we had WX Worx--it shows TFRs too). Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=189849#189849
