Subject: | new video's on website |
Hi all,
I just put up a few video's on the web site of our journey from Fl. to KY.
I'm not sure if the 56 K guys will have any problems but I shrank them down
as small as I could for you guys so let me know if it is ok or if I need to
put a link to them one by one. Cable shouldn't be an issue.
They are on the home page. _www.aeroliteproducts.com_

They went under about a month or two ago. I read that it was 4/23/08.

I hadn't heard about it but I just a minute ago called the number listed on their
web site, (423) 267-3311, and a phone company recording says "The number you
have called has been temporarily disconnected."
Not proof but not good news.

Subject: | nav/strobe wiring...shielded or not? |
I'm certain this has been discussed but I could not find in archives. (Maybe someone
can point me to one) I found that my 601 kit does not have enough 16 guage
wire so I was about to call Wickes to order some when it occurred to me that
the strobe wire, but maybe not the nav, might need to be shielded wire. My strobe
unit is out at the wing tip. I was going to use the kit supplied white 16
guage wire but I don't think it has shielding?. Is there any back noise generated
down the power wire for the strobe unit or will any noise stay at the wing
tip? For the nav light, I thought I would order unshielded red wire for the
left wing and green for the right just to make wiring easy at the instrument
pannel. Wickes ,however, does not have green but my local hardware has auto grade
wire that is green.... though I'm not certain I can use this in a plane. Any
thoughts? Thanks

The noise should stay out there in the wing and not be a problem.
BTW. I used to have all these great ideas about different colors of wires. That
was until the last few weeks when I started to realize just how much wire is
in a 601XL.

I'd recommend staying with the aircraft grade Tefzel insulated
wire. That is more important than the color of the insulation.
I'd also recommend unshielded wire for installation of strobe with
the flash unit in the wing tip. The long power lead shouldn't see
much noise from the flasher power supply, and you can twist the wires
from the supply to the strobe tube to reduce noise. All of that
stuff is in an aluminum grounded box because of its location.
Good luck,
Paul

Subject: | Re: nav/strobe wiring...shielded or not? |
I have my strobe power supplies mounted under the seats in the cabin.
The 12 volt wire is unshielded and the high voltage wire leading to
the strobe heads is shielded. I also used unshielded wire for the nav
lights. I can hear some strobe noise if I turn the intercom volume way
up but it is not noticeable at normal volume. I used shielded cable
for all of my audio circuits with the shields all grounded at only one
end at the audio panel.
I would be reluctant to use automotive wire anywhere in the cabin.
When that stuff overheats, it can catch fire and give off some nasty
fumes.
B and C specialty products carries 16 gauge aircraft wire in red,
blue, black and white.
http://www.bandc.biz/parts.html
They also carry clear heat shrink to put over wire labels. I made wire
labels on my computer printer and attached them to my wires under
clear heat shrink at each end to keep stuff sorted out. I also used
various colored Sharpie markers to help keep track of wires. The ink
tends to rub off fairly easily but it works well enough.
