Applefeld VMD" Subject: Zenith601-List: parts for sale I apologize to the list in advance. Since my accident on the way to Oshkosh last year, I have been in the process of rebuilding my scratch-built 601HD. In the process I have made a few up-grades and now find I have some parts left over. At this point I don't know when or if I will get the plane back in the air. I thought I would offer them to the list before putting them on Ebay. If anyone is interested in any or all, please contact me off list. The prices I am asking are before shipping. I hope no one minds my listing them here since they are directly related to building a Zenith airplane. 1. 16 gal. header tank and two 7 gal. wing baggage locker tanks (all original Zenith) The header tank has a minor dent in the bottom from when my nose gear collapse bending the firewall. The dent is minor and there is no leaks. Asking $100 for all three. 2. Transponder and Mode C altitude encoder and mounting tray and harnass- originally made by the Cessna Aircraft Co. but is similar to a Narco with manual input dials. It is all solid state I believe. It had its biannual VFR certification just prior to Oshkosh and was working normally when removed from the plane. I have the VFR cert. in my logbook for review. Asking $500 3. One each - altimeter, airspeed indicator, vertical speed indicator, directional gyro (vacuum driven) - all working normally when removed and in near new condition. Asking $75 each 4. Flightcom IIsx two place portable intercom with stereo input, 12v DC power or battery backup. Asking $75 Jerry Applefeld Do Not Archive ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 12:42:10 PM PST US Subject: Zenith601-List: 4340 Billet Corvair Crankshafts are here! From: "Brady" Ladies & Gentlemen, I have just received our first 4340 billet crankshaft! I am proud to say that the workmanship and the finish are top notch and the dimensions are all perfect. Our next step is to send a material sample to an independent laboratory for a material analysis. This will confirm the alloy and the quality of the alloy. Assuming it passes the laboratory tests we will have the strongest Corvair crankshaft available any where! Here is a picture of the Crankshaft. So (by any measure you choose) how much "stronger" do you think your new cranks are compared to a recently nitride (as opposed to nitride by GM in the 60's) factory crank. Will you be nitriding yours too? From: "Brady" Craig, These crankshafts are Plasma Nitrided. And can be Cryogenicly treated as well as an option. Mine will get cryo-ed. They are approximately 25% Stronger than a NEW OEM crankshaft that is Nitrided, by conservative estimates. The necessity of a fifth bearing is a personal decision and application should be taken into consideration. I am going to fly this crankshaft without a fifth bearing. Strength is not the only issue. Fatigue Life is the issue. All crankshafts have a finite number of cycles until failure. These crankshafts have 0 cycles on them. How many cycles does your GM crankshaft have on it?
