Subject: | Zenith 601 crashn Australia |
TWO people have been found dead after their ultra light aircraft crashed into a
ridge north of Charters Towers during a two-week Gulf of Carpentaria flying safari
in north Queensland.
Police located the wreckage of the crashed Zenith Zodiac 601 about 11am after
a full-scale two-day air and ground search.
Both the pilot and passenger, of Cessnock in New South Wales, are understood to
have been killed on impact.
Fellow aviators in the club flyout - involving eleven aircraft - were too upset
to speak about the loss.
Club president Keith Rule told The Courier Mail they had lost two very good friends.
He declined to publicly release names of the victims until family have been notified.
He said the flying conditions had been perfect and they were at a loss as to what
caused the accident

Ouch, sorry for being such an email klutz in that last posting. I hate it
when people don't clean up their message and here I blasted out all of the
"replied to" stuff. My apologizes. That was ugly and sloppy. I plead late
night mental limitation and I sentence myself to washing the plane this
morning. Before I fly. -- FJD

Drove to the airport this morning intending to fly, but the weather here in
the Florida Keys wouldn't allow it. So, I got into a project. As all 601
flyers know, space for stuff you need in flight is at a premium. That
control stick is sexy, but it doesn't allow you to have much even on your
lap! I haven't yet found a good place for a cup holder, but I have made
some improvements. I posted a video on my blog showing what I did to try
and optimize in-flight storage room with a lightweight 4-drawer cabinet.
Next step, some bungee cord hold-downs. See http://mostlyflying.com
