Subject: | Center Stick Boot Pattern |
I am trying to make a 'boot' for my center stick 601XL. So far I have twice failed
to visualize the right pattern and am wasting good vinyl. Does anybody have
a flat pattern they can take a picture of that might help me? I just downloaded
a pattern off the Matronics archives that could work, but it is for the
HD center console which has a different outline.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

I'll be, who'd have thunk it? I guess the old memory isn't completely gone yet.
DO ARCHIVE . (Because I probably won't remember in a week or so when I need it.)

I really like those. Where did you get the boxes?
There has been no size or location testing but I've been planning on mounting a
couple of these from Cabelas.

This is strictly a proof-of-concept idea, but here is an elbow rest/storage/drink
holder box I fabricated. It seemed that with my seat cushion arrangement,
that there was a blank spot between my elbow and the seal back channel where a
bottle of water could sit. After I am flying, I will test fly the box and possibly
refine the dimensions and either keep or scuttle the drink holder.
By the way, the family has been put on strict notice that bottles of water will
the only drinks ever allowed in the airplane.
Good luck,

My WW manual is an older one and I don't recall if that was addressed in my
manual or not.
I could be wrong I 'll have to read through it again.
I thought I had all that memorized.
My mind must be slipping. :-)

It's in the current edition of the 601 Install manual. I don't know if it is in
the conversion manual.

Subject: | Re: Center Stick Boot Pattern |
I used craft paper to mock up a stick boot for my plane. Once I got a
configuration that worked, I used it as a pattern to cut out the
leather for the final part. I basically made a rectangular pyramid
with the base the same size as the stick opening. The left and right
sides are equilateral triangles. I left tabs of material at the bottom
for attaching the boot. I split the pyramid down the center of the
front side leaving extra material to allow for a hem. I punched holes
on each side of the seam up the front center for leather lacing. I
also rolled down the material at the top around the stick to give a
smooth edge.
Here's a rough sketch of what I started with. I don't recall the exact
dimensions I ended up with.
