Using tubes instead of cables is usually considered to give a smoother feel
than cables, since even the small amount of stretch is eliminated. This is
felt by some to be particularly true when the cables go around a pulley,
which induces drag.
But tubes weigh more than cables. Tubes also can't go around corners, which
cables can with a pulley or (small angles) a fairlead. If you have a corner
and a tube, something like a bell crank is needed to translate the motion.
Bell cranks also add to the weight.
As usual, it's a tradeoff. My gut feel is that there aren't enough pulleys nor
long enough cables in a 601XL/650 to make this worth the estra weight and
trouble.

The aileron cable is a fairly long and completely straight run. I'm thinking about
using push rods there. Dave Nixon used them in his 601XL and he is happy with
them. I'm waiting on some photos from him.

Yes it did and the 601 and the 650 are close enough that it would be stupid to
split them up.

Gig,
When the pictures come through, please re-post them here.
