Is it just me, or is having the gascolator hanging down in the channel below
the fuselage right below my knees not a wierd location? By is it not up on
the firewall like on most planes? It is not the low point of the fuel
system anyway (the tank drains are).
Just curious what others are doing at this point.

Paul,
I did use the drawing location, but did not like it's exposure directly
behind the nose wheel because of FOD (Foreign Object Damage) concerns
with possible debris being thrown by the nose wheel. I land my airplane
on a short, rough, grass strip that has a gravel road cutting it about
half way down. I fabricated a metal airfoil shaped shield, with the
front part of the bottom of the shield covered and the aft part open to
permit "sumping" of the gascolator. The shield is removable for
maintenance. I do believe you will find that the gascolator is at the
low point when mounted per the drawings.
I believe you can find examples of other shields in the archives.

Paul:
I put mine on the firewall (right bottom - made a bracket to hold it),
mostly because I have a stiff back and reaching way under the fuselage to
drain it would give me problems.
I believe this is the location used for the European models. I think I
have a drawing I can send you if you want to see a Rotax layout.

Actually, this is the low point in the system, the tank drains are a
few inches higher due to the dihedral of the wings and their location
nearly a foot out from the wing root. On many planes (e. g. high wing
Cessnas) a position on the firewall is the low point of the system.

Hangar clean out day continues:
I've put the following items up for sale on eBay...
All these items are essentially new units (zero time). They were
purchased as I was building my plane and now I don't need.
The Stratus EA-81 and FWF Kit has no reserve - needless to say, I'll be
sleeping on the couch tonight!
