It is much easier to access for the pre-flight fuel sample there. I moved my fuel selector valve down to the cockpit floor via an extension rod and ran out of room to put the gascolator in the suggested area. I also made a sheet metal protection fairing for it. After 23 hours of Phase 1 flight test it is working well so far. Good Luck, -------- David Gallagher 601 XL, first flight 7/24/08. In Phase I flight test. If it makes a difference, I'm installing a Corvair using WWs cowling kit. -------- Larry Winger Tustin, CA Plans building 601XL/650 with Corvair Control surfaces and wings complete Fuselage 60% complete www.mykitlog.com/lwinger Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p 3173#203173 ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 08:56:35 AM PST US Subject: Re: Zenith601-List: Cowling connection to side skins From: jaybannist@cs.com Larry, I have the WW cowling setup, also. (actually the Beta kit from WW) I used the ZAC recommended 70mm (from firewall rivet line) overhang on the fuselage top and side skins. You could trim that to 20mm from the face of the firewall, but why? I overlapped the cowling side skins about 30mm just to add a little more stiffness to the assembly. My advice is just fit the cowling to the plane. It is a lot easier to cut the sheets of the cowling than it is the skins that are already riveted in place. lwinger wrote: > How much side skin ahead of the firewall will I actually need to join with the cowling?
