Subject: Rear frame channel and attach plates - Pre-drilled skins
From: "dgardea(at)gmail.com" <dgardea@gmail.com>
Hello folks, I'm at that point where I need to drill through the pre-drilled fuselage forward skins into the upright channels (6B5-6). The rear frame channel is already drilled and clecoed to the fuselage floor using the pre-drilled holes there. Before I drill the uprights, I will ensure that the rear frame channel is at 77.5 degrees (using the plywood template) as specified in the plans. My concern is that, using this method, I'm taking it on faith that the rear spar attach plates will be in the right position for later wing attachment. All of this is without a wing jig as Zenith tells me I don't need one since I have the predrilled fuselage kit. Did this approach work for everyone else with the predrilled skins or do I need to build a jig to be absolutely sure of my rear attach plate positioning? Thanks in advance for your help. Sounds like you have two options. Trust Zenith that the holes are all in the right place or make the jigs. I seem to remember using the top of the wing jig for something other than just making sure the angle was right but it may have been something that isn't required with the pre-drilled skins. You guys with all this pre-drilled stuff don't know how easy you have it. -------- W.R. "Gig" Giacona 601XL Under Construction See my progress at www.peoamerica.net/N601WR Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p 5763#205763

Thanks to everyone who has provided information, and answered a number of my questions. As of yesterday, I have one of the last 601XL kits on order. Perhaps I don't fully understand, but I just couldn't see that the 650 had sufficient additional features to justify the price difference. I'll also admit I like the looks of the old canopy better than the new. That's a personal taste thing, not a structural, weight, or performance issue. I've settled on the O-200, which means I'll be scouring the market for an engine. If anyone runs across one, I might be interested. ============================================= Those who can, do. Right on Gig When all those predrilled holes line up it must make it real easy. I remember I spent hours and hours with levels trying to get it right. Mine seems right so far and I should be flying in a few more months -------- 601XL N676L reserved ALMOST DONE CHESAPEAKE VA Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p 5873#205873
