Any recommendations on what to do next? Wings or Fuselage? The finished fuselage will take up a lot of space. The wings can be easily stored out of the way. Flaps and ailerons would be a good next step. This is just my humble opinion. Other folks may feel differently. I forgot to look last weekend. I took a look today. The stock 1/8" nylon fairlead material has held up well. I can not see wear in the perpendicular holes - not enough room to get the cable out of the way. I can move the rudder cable out of the way at the aft of the fuselage. The fairlead is discolored where the cable touches it, but, there is little obvious wear. And, the cables look fine where they pass through the fairleads - no obvious wear. I stayed in the pattern at BFI today and did 4 touch + goes and 1 full stop landing, I'm oncall and can't go too far away. I turned crosswind at 1000' AGL, except when a Citation took off on the parallel, then I turned early at ~600'. On my third time around the controller asked me if I had time for a question. I said affirmative. He then said, 'Which engine do you have in the plane?'. I was relieved to hear an airplane question and not 'Why aren't you ....?' I told him it was a Jabiru 3300, ~100HP. He said 'Thanks' and the routine radio traffic resumed. > "Thruster87" > Date: Sep 13, 2008 > Could someone elaborate on how the 1/8" nylon fairleads are > wearing. Tangent: This reminds me of an exchange I had with Sioux City Approach yesterday morning. I'd gotten flight following from Minneapolis Center, and replied to the usual "Say type designator and equipment suffix" with "CH60/G, and no, it's not a helicopter." That got the usual chuckle. Sioux City took one look at the strip when he got the handoff, and immediately replied to my callup with "Helicopter 5ZC..." That led to the following: Me: 5ZC is not a helicopter. Approach: Well, then what are you? Me: A CH60 is a two-place light sport aircraft. The helicopter is just H60. Approach: I thought the civilian N number on that looked funny, but I figured anything was possible. Me: I might look like it on the radar screen. Approach: I didn't think any of those were in civilian hands yet. Me: Well, you know, some third world country might have turned loose of one. Approach: Could be...but thanks for telling me. -- Jay Maynard, K5ZC http://www.conmicro.com http://jmaynard.livejournal.com http://www.tronguy.net Fairmont, MN (FRM) (Yes, that's me!)
