I am guessing that you do not have your engine in place yet. The additional weight
up front takes pressure off of the place where the nose gear cross bar sits
in the nylon bearing v-groove. It does get a bit better.

With the airplane at rest and weight on the nose wheel it takes a hell of a
lot of pressure to move the nose wheel. This ain't power steering. You get
it rolling and then start the turn. -- FJD

Thruster897 (that's as weird as "Ocho Cinco"),
When I first installed the nose gear strut, I could not rotate it at all. I put
a .016" shim between the plastic main bushing blocks, in the forward joint only.?
I still had a hard time rotating the nose gear strut by hand.? Now that I
am in taxi testing, I find that the steering is as it should be.? I'm guessing
that is because feet and rudder pedals are much more effective than hands trying
to rotate the strut.

I'm just at the stage of putting the nose gear in place and once the bungee is
installed I can barely move the rudder pedals.Does it loosen after a while or
not? For those who are already flying how would you rate the amount of force
needed to move the rudder with the nose wheel of the ground? [Looking doing at
the bearing mod] Thank you T87

Hi
After 5 years and 400 hours I am thinking of changing the nose wheel bungee
this winter. Does anyone have a bungee installation tool that I could
borrow? I would be happy to pay the freight to Alaska and back.

Hi Bill
Changing the nose bungee is easy. There is info in the archives. I just jac
ked the nose up. Removed the lower bearing=2C and steering rods. Cut the ol
d bungee. Removed the top plate and dropped the gear low enough to get the
new bungee in place. Used a long screwdriver to lever the bungee up into pl
ace. No special tool needed.

Subject: | Canopy Conversion Video now available! |
HomebuiltHELP is happy to announce that it now has a DVD video
demonstrating the conversion process of changing a 601XL canopy to the
new style CH650 canopy. This presentation uses the kit made available
by Zenith for this purpose.
It was quite an experience to participate in this production - led by
Gus Warren of www.FlywithGus.com who orchestrated the steps found on the
video. We were probably among the first to perform the conversion, out
side of Zenith.
I don't sell canopies, but it is my opinion that after reviewing the
components and engineering of this new canopy, it would be hard to
imagine that anyone would not be pleased by the "improvements" it
provides. There is obviously a cost and investment in time to perform
the conversion, but I think most would be happy at the results. It is
nice to have options like this that are retrofitable!
For info on the video:
