When I was building my canopy I noted that a binding cable could potentially keep
the release lever, on each latching mechanism, from snapping back far enough
to latch on both clicks. I cut a 1 inch hole in the inside skin, right beside
each canopy latch, where I can visually inspect to see that the latch lever
has snapped clear back as it should. It's not as pretty but it accomplishes
two goals: you can visually tell if you are latched in good and if you should
have a failure in either cable you could get out of the airplane by using your
finger and manually flipping the latching lever forward.

I don't have them handy but that sort of access is in either the plans or the build
manual. I'll have them on the outside as well with a cap on the hole.

Well darn. I thought it was my idea but in reality I could have seen it elsewhere
and acted on it later. I have a bit of a problem trusting the "bicycle cables"
that I installed in the canopy. It's ironic how they take constant lubricant
and adjustment on a bicycle and now, I'm riveting metal around them on
an airplane. I sure don't have a better solution though. I'm resigned to the
fact that if it has tires or testicles, you are going to have problems with
it 8>)

I can put a ditto on the canopy latch access holes. The closest I have come was
to have the main latch pop up on one side and get caught by the 2nd, safety
latch. It still scared the crap out of me. I too could not get the canopy to
fully re-latch in flight. I am sure that laxness on my part during closure was
to blame. Now the canopy latching procedure includes sticking my finger into
this access hole and pulling back on the lever to ensure it is secure. I have
had no issues since.
Good luck,

Thanks for all the input from everyone on props. It does not sound as though I
will have a weight and balance issue. For my application, it appears the
choice remains between ground adjustable and fixed pitch wood.
I'll get some prices, and see if I can afford the adjustable. If I can't, I'll
see if I can get one of the experimental shops to clone the Sensenich wood
fixed pitch prop.
Incidently, it may just be my background, but I've never considered not having
at least a 40 hour test period. Thus, a certified engine/certified prop
combination has never been a consideration to me.

Hello friends,
Anyone out there flying an XL behind an UL 260 engine? Any comment would be
great.

Why not just have Sensenich make you one? My custom prop (which spins the wrong
way) was a little under $800.

Looks interesting, but the power is somewhat disappointing: 95 HP at 3300
RPM, about 77 HP at 2700 RPM. I'd guess it needs a bit more oomph for a
Zodiac, though it would be great for a 701.

That's cheaper than I would have expected. I'll consider them.

Hi Jim,
Why not get Sensenich to make you the prop you need. The one I got
for the Jabiru (64ZK49, I think) was around $600. It has a nice
plastic leading edge and seems like a good deal to me. I have
exchanged emails with the guy at Sensenich and believe he will
probably be happy to supply your prop. If you have trouble finding
the right contact (try Google) let me know and I will find my old email.
Good luck,
Paul

Make a nice tie down weight when parking.
Based on the jabiru 2200 , was intended for a helicopter project .... nuff said.
High rpm , not good for thrust output, bit heavy too for the 77 hp as this
is at real world rpm of 2750. 3300 rpm if you have a VP prop and your area
allows the noise.
So other than all that , a great engine. LOL
