Subject: CorvAircraft> Corvair info at Copperstate AZ
Friends,
The Copperstate fly in is this weekend in AZ. Contact! editor Pat Panzera
organizes a lot of the engine forum information, and will be on hand to cover
the event for his readership. The Contact! booth is a meeting point for Corvair
builders. I spoke with Pat yesterday and he said that he was headed to the
show with his running Corvair engine on his test stand.
One of the forums Pat Organized was an Engine review and a discussion of
detonation on Saturday at 3pm in the forum tents. To supplement the information
I have asked Corvair/ 601 XL builder Andy Elliott from Mesa, AZ, to attend the
forum and share his building insight.
Andy is 99% done with his 3100cc 601 XL Tail Dragger. When I spoke to him
last night he was down to putting the final paint on the wingtips. He is an
instructor at Embry Riddle's Prescott campus and he holds a Ph.D. in Aerospace
Engineering from a trade school in Massachusetts with the initials MIT He is a
former US Air Force flight instructor and equally home in the cockpit and the
classroom. He is a very friendly guy and easy to speak with.
Andy's involvement with the Corvair movement goes all the way back to the
2002 San Antonio College that we held with host Oscar Zuniga. I look forward to
the good chance we will have Andy's plane at CC#13.
I would appreciate this note being forwarded to the 601 list and KR net.
Thank you.

No you are confused by the screwed up quotation of the post I was responding to.
It is my position that the balancing is used to reduce flutter because Bingelis
said so.

I have to agree with Dave. I have hingeless ailerons (which I'm sure are
stiffer than hinged ailerons) and have flown my XL on a number of cross
country flights, the longest being Wisconsin to California, and the flight
was not fatiguing at all.
Just telling real life experiences.
