[quote="david_a_g_johnson(at)btin"]I've just seen a report on the UK LAA website forum that the Dutch have grounded all CH601XL aircraft, following a crash (2 fatalities) attributed to the wings folding. This is the link to the Dutch report - not much use unless you can read Dutch! http://www.ivw.nl/actueel/nieuws/inspectiehoudttwaalfsportvliegtuigjesaandegrond.aspx (http://www.ivw.nl/actueel/nieuws/inspectiehoudttwaalfsportvliegtuigjesaandegrond.aspx) Has anyone any further news on this? I understand the crash was in September. Dave Johnson CH601XL - Jab. 3300 - (still) hoping to fly soon. Do not archive > [b] So can we clarify if this was the european microlight version with the .16 thou skins or the the US .25 thou skin version ???? My lit is on the way and now my wife who reads this is not happy...... k -------- Austria ...guess where I work! Indeed, bad news :( Here is part of the Message I received today via the German LBA (Similar to FAA): I copy this because it is written in English language, so no Google translation errors. This is the Letter that was sent from The Netherlands Airworthiness Inspectorate to the German LBA Dear Madam, Sir, On the 14th of September 2008 a fatal accident occurred in The Netherlands with a Micro Light Aircraft, Type Zodiac CH 601 XL. The Dutch Safety Board released a preliminary report on the findings of their investigation into the possible causes of the accident. There are indications that break-up of the wing structure was the cause of the accident. Based on the preliminary findings of the accident investigation of the Dutch Safety Board, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Netherlands has declared the aircraft not airworthy until further notice. An airworthiness directive has been issued. Similar accidents with this type of airplane have been reported from the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Spain. As the organization that approves the Zenair CH 601 XL aircraft, you are requested to inform the type certificate holder of this Micro Light Aircraft of this accident. Can you inform us on actions that have been taken and/or have been planned to restore the airworthiness of the aircraft. I am sending this message on behalf of Mr Jan Dirk Steenbergen, Director Airworthiness Inspectorate. Please copy Mr Steenbergen in your replies: Jan-Dirk.Steenbergen@ivw.nl Yours sincerely, Marnix van der Heijde Unitmanager Product Certification Civil Aviation Authority - The Netherlands Airworthiness Inspectorate Best Regards Peter Barthold CH601HDS TD Tail and Wings complete, Centerwing in Progress Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=210473#210473

Can any one post some pictures of the anti oil canning mods on a 650 so I can incorporate them on my 601. I can see in the promotional stuff the fuselage ones but wonder how the wing ones go. Do they form dummy ribs like i have seen on some European models or do they run span wise like stringers between the ribs?? Thanks Kev -------- Austria ...guess where I work! Gary ... in Blighty.. a question for you. You said, "...probably is the rear spar attach , i give mine a real good check over before and after flight." How do you check it? One puzzling thing about this broohaha is that no one has ever mentioned finding a crack, a wiggle, a squeak, on the ground. If there was one clue found before or after floight then there would be none of this endless/useless speculation. How would you check? Frank Derfler Islamorada, Florida -- Twitter! Frank, On my airplane, I torqued the attach bolts and put a spot of paint at the base of the nut.? Flaps down, I can check to see that the nut hasn't moved during pre-flight inspection. I used dzus because that is what came with the kit and I didn't know any better at the time. I have since used Cam-locks on my cowling and REALLY like them so I will at some point replace the ones on the lockers. I just got off the phone with Travis at Zenith, Mexico, MS. He said he thought he had a picture, showing the layout on the wing for the bracing in the rib bays, between the ribs I've ordered extra "L" angles and hopefully, Travis will be able to put that picture in my shipment to me, or in the mail. If he does send me a photo, I WILL post it here on the website for those wishing to do this upgrade. -------- Larry Hursh (N601LL Reserved) CH601XL - 100 HP Corvair Powered Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=210590#210590

You can't have to many L angles on hand. You will use more than the plans show and in many places not shown on the plans even if you don't add the cross braces. skyridersbn wrote: > I just got off the phone with Travis at Zenith, Mexico, MS.
