Interesting thought on the home base sacrificial anode. I may setup a trial
next spring if I get around to it. Hang just a piece of al on a string and
another one attached to a magnesium stake driven into the ground. Very
interesting!

something else to keep in mind, Way back when Burt Rutan worked for Jim Bed
e in Newton Kansas, they ran control cable through nylon tubing over some o
bstruction that was attached to a door so that when people used the door it
moved the cable in the tube. What they found, if I recall correctly, was t
hat the cable wears more rapidly than the tubing. We may need to insect the
cables for wear as well where the pass the fairleads?

They were set with identical model cable gauges. The only problem is that
over the telephone in November of 2007, and there may have been a lot of st
atic
on the line, what was heard from Zenith was ALL cables: 25 +/- 5, with the
caveat: light side on the rudder, heavy side on the elevator. There was
another conversation where 30 +/- 5 was mentioned but the voice was not
recognized and they made no differentiation between any particular control
surface.
So too, this time an IA did it.

down elevator set at 30 found at 35......elevator neutralized this time
left rudder set to 20 found at 27............different lift methods used
right rudder set to 20 found at 27..........different lift methods used

Subject: | Cable load on rear rib 7 |
I'm in the process of attaching the Bellcrank Support and Bellcrank Support Channel
to Rear Rib 7. I can't help but wonder how RR7 supports 70 (+/-10) lbs of
cable force (each cable pulling with 30 (+/-5) lbs.).
It's Saturday or I'd call the factory to ask them if it might be wise to add L
angle doublers to the Bellcrank Support Channel.
Am I unnecessarily concerned?

Something that seems to be ignored a bit is that corrosion occurs not just on
the outside skin of the aircraft, but also on the inside. No matter what kind
of paint or similar material is used on the outside, the inside still needs
protection.
It doesn't seem much more difficult to not put a decorative coating everywhere
on the exterior, and to do the protection on both the inside and the outside
surfaces at the same time. I normally did the interior surfaces of my
Cherokee during annual each year. I'd probably do the same thing for the
601XL.
I'll admit I'm biased, though. I'd already pretty much made up my mind to
minimize the decorative coating on the outside.

Thanks to all for the ideas. I will probably build the storage rack suggested
by Jay Bannister for the wings and elevator.
Each of us has our own unique requirements. My shop, where I'm building the
aircraft, has sloped rafters, with no flat ceiling area. The walls are heavy
steel beams, with sheet metal. That makes it difficult to store the rubber on
the walls, or to build some kind of storage surface below the ceiling.
I will continue to think on the rudder problem. You've given me some ideas.

I don't think it would create a combined load like that because the other end is
also dealing with half of the tension. It is just 30 (+/-5) lbs.
