From: "PatrickW" How tight do I need to tighten the castle nuts on the axle of my XL's nose gear? Should the castle nuts be tight enough so that the bearing housings are pressed (by the 6G1-4 spacers) against the wheel hard enough so the bearing housings (and spacers) do not rotate with the wheel? 6-G-1 says, "SEALED TAPERED ROLLER BEARINGS CAN BE PRELOAD WHEN TIGHTENING AXLE NUT". What does that mean...? The bearings that came with my kit are tapered bearings, but they are not sealed (I had to pack them with grease). Is there a torque value someplace that I missed...? Hi Patrick, In my experience, if you tighten the axle nut too much the wheel won't turn easily. If it is too loose the wheel won't spin true, i.e. it will wobble. I tightened mine to the point that the wheel binds and then back off on the nut until the wheel almost spins freely. Spinning it by hand feels just like a car wheel when the car is jacked up.
