If you use bolts you will need to have access plates installed. A better
way if you're worried about the rivets is to use Solids. They are MUCH
stronger than A5's

Jeff

Isn't there some sort of alodine solution you can put on the metal after it's polished
that helps protect the aluminum? I thought that's what that slight yellow
tinge was.

But I did want it to be a fun thing too, thus the military look.

of surface corrosion, I will certainly entertain one of those. But, here in
North Texas, we don't have any salty sea air nor any influence from salting snowy
roads.

tarp. When I brought them inside to do the painting, I found a lot of surface
corrosion. It occurred mainly where the tarp touched the metal. It took the
better part of a month to get rid of it. They probably would have fared better
if I had left them uncovered. I think the corrosion formed when the tarp actually
kept the contact area moist. Uncovered, the moisture would have mostly
run off and the rest just evaporated.

I know aluminum boats in salt-water need zinc anodes and aluminum boats in freshwater
need magnesium anodes. I'm guessing a plane near the sea would need a zinc
anode. Might want to experiment with both types.

If you are worried about strength why not use A6 rivets. If you use either
bolts or solids you will need access to the inside of the rudder.
