To 601XL quick build kit builders, I have a friend that has a 601XL quick build kit.? He is concerned about how to do work? inside the cockpit, such as installation of the brake cylinders, installation of the dual sticks and the like.? Since I built from component kits, I can't help him much.? I would like to hear any suggestions from those that have done this kind of work on a quick build fuselage. Is there any practical solution, other than hiring a midget contortionist airframe mechanic ? Hi Jay, I started with a 601XL QB and didn't have a problem with installing the brake cylinders, etc. Its a bit of a balancing act at times but certainly doable since the panel isn't fully riveted and can be removed. I did go with your access hatch plans for easy access to the space behind the panel which has been nice when I need to do a couple of things behind the panel. Now my 12 year old son who's pretty thing did help out in other areas like the rear fuselage :-) John Davis N601JD Burnsville, NC jaybannist@cs.com wrote: > To 601XL quick build kit builders, > > I have a friend that has a 601XL quick build kit. I'm assuming he does realize that the front glare shield is only riveted te mporarily with a couple rivets so as to allow you to drill them out and hav e easy access behind the panel etc.- I haven't had any problem accessing anything. While we did not do a quick build the issue is the same on the kit. Cleco the upper skin in place (if at all) until you are done behind the panel. H opefully you have slide out instrumentation -- and leave plenty of wire sla ck so you can do that. I made an access panel for the upper skin and canno t imagine not having it.
