It seems to me, on this matter of control surface flutter, that one thing has been ignored. This list probably has representatives that collectively have an awful lot of "time in type". Probably the most significant representation of 601 experience in fact. So, from this collective experience I ask, Who has experienced in flight control surface Flutter?? I did a quick search...didn't see anyone mention or ask for a solution or advice on how to correct a problem they have had, as usually is the norm on these forums. I didn't go back to the first post, but far enough to make me think in has not been problem. I did see several posted question about control surface balancing...but I saw none as a solution to an actual experienced problem, but only in the, "do you think we oughtta" area. That being said, I have built 5 flying machines and I mass balanced ailerons on each but one, which was a weedhopper back in 1979...(didn't have em!) simply because I have always believed this was the proper way to build a control surface, and having experienced aileron flutter a time or 2 I didn't ever want to go thru it again. I will confess also that when the stick went wild in my hand I was operating the craft outside the design envelope. I also will note that of the other 4 I built..only my current KitFox Speedster came with aileron balance provisions, the others Did not, and I fabricated my own. Still I ask....has it been a real problem with any Zenith??? I cannot believe that the only times it has happened it resulted in a fatal crash,, if in fact it has ever. So what say you gents????? IN the experience represented here, how many have had it happen? -------- Don G. Hi Don; Have you done it now! You should know that this list is rarely given to logical thought. All the armchair theorists out there will fill your mailbox with vitriolic spam. Do not archive.
