I just completed my 601 HD and when it was time to attach the canopy to the
frame I called the manufacturer to see what they thought was the best way.
They were firm in their belief that you should use an AN3 bolt through the
canopy and all the way through the frame. The canopy should be drilled to
accept a 3/16" grommet and a nylock nut on the other end. That way the
force can be controlled and the canopy will stay on and not crack.

Leroy,
What manufacturer did you call ??
Zenith provides # 6 screws (NAS548P6-10), which are to be installed in holes drilled
with a #40 drill bit .? That hole is roughly half the size of a hole for
an AN3 bolt.? The hole for the # 6 screw is only through one side of the tube
frame.? Drilling a 3/16" hole through both sides of the tube takes away 4 times
as much material as for a # 6 screw.? A # 40 hole reduces the cross sectional
area of the tube by 4.37%.? Two 3/16" holes reduce it by x 17.25%.? It seems
to me that is a significant reduction in strength of the tube frame. That is
why I am asking.

I think it was Aero Plastics. We bought it direct from Zenith. It was
whomever they use.

I would strongly suggest you look at the Zenith construction manual.
Here's a link. http://www.zenithair.com/zodiac/xl/data/6-c-4.pdf
While Aero Plastics may know about the canopy they built they aren't experts on
installing it as directed by Zenith.
