    Subject: Trim tab meter worthwhile...?
    From: "PatrickW" <pwhoyt@yahoo.com>
Are those little rectangular trim tab meters that come with the kit worth installing...? I am starting to work on my panel, and am thinking of leaving these off. Anybody who's left them off and later wished they' had put them in...? Anybody who's installed them and has then found that they're not useful...? Thanks, - Pat -------- Patrick XL/650/Corvair N63PZ (reserved) Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=247073#247073

Hi Pat, I have found the indicator for elevator trim very useful. It allows you to set the trim for takeoff without turning completely around in the seat to see where the trim tab is currently positioned. After a full flap landing, it takes a considerable change to get ready for takeoff. I don't have aileron trim on the plane I am currently flying. I suspect you could see the aileron trim tab from the pilot's seat easily enough that the indicator for that would be excess baggage. Also, I don't think you will need to make so many large changes to the aileron trim. Should wing bolts be coated with anticorosion lubricant or placed dry?

Hi Bob, My understanding is they are supposed to be installed dry. If you do apply any lubrication to wing bolts, you need to adjust the torque applied to them to account for the lubrication. You're not missing anything. Individual parts cost more than kit parts. I ordered the main landing gear strut, wheels and brakes for my 601XL and they cost more than the complete landing gear kit...so I ordered the kit and got a lot of extra parts for less money. It's how a business makes money. You could put a bit of Duralac onto the shanks to minimize corrosion. The torque values won't be affected if you keep the thread free from any duralac or any other foreign matter.Cheers T87 Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=247116#247116

Thanks for all your replies. If I add up the parts list for the fuselage kit, the total is about $3,500.00, the kit price is $4,725.00. So none of the solutions provided solve this mystery. If you do the same exercise for other component kits the results are all over the map. Maybe the part prices shown on the web are incorrect? I doubt very seriously that you have actually accounted for ALL the parts.? If you are taking your parts list from the illustrated parts manual, or even the detailed parts list, you are primarily missing? a lot of hardware: solid rivets, bolts, screws, nut plates, and the like that are included in a kit, but are not listed as parts.? I also doubt very seriously that you could buy all the individual airframe parts, and pieces of hardware for less than the cost of a kit. -----Original Message----- From: hansriet <hansinla@mac.com> Sent: Sat, 6 Jun 2009 7:20 pm Subject: Zenith601-List: Re: Component Kits Thanks for all your replies. Are you including all the miscellaneous hardware included in the kit? Such as rivets, nuts and bolts, washers, etc. And there is also the crating charge to cover the cost of the lumber, packaging and labor. Pat, I agree with Paul. I have both, but use visual to confirm aileron trim tab position. In flight I use very little aileron trim.
