Chris,
I'm guessing that one of the uprights, bent to 85 deg, is 6B13-1; and the
other one, bent to 95 deg. is 6B13-2. If I am correct, both these parts
do show up on 6B13, but true to Zenith form, the part number is not calle
d out on the detail drawing of the part. (That needs to change)
It is the forward one, bent to 85 deg. that is to be replaced with an extr
uded angle. That extruded angle, of course, is a 90 deg. angle. I'm not
sure how that is going to work.

having a look at the DRAFT upgrades on page 2 top RH corner ,Center spar
it lists a part called 6B13-2.. Now my plans don't have a -2 only 6B13-1
I thought I had all the updates .. does this part exist on page 6B13???

same problem with the top spar cap, they are forcing the skins to the "new" angle...
on new construction no problem, on skins that are already in place and
being deformed, it creates a nightmare calculating the strength developed
similar to the problem with the hole in the rear spar, on paper the hole is OK,
but in practice the steel hinges that terminated so close to the hole created
kinks that greatly diminished the strength of the rear spar...

Jay-
If I'm following your description properly, the Sonex also uses the
85 degree L. There's a Homebuilder's Hint video on this subject on the
EAA site. Check it out. I may be wrong, but it won't cost you anything
to investigate.

If you have never seen it before, there is an interesting video on the Grove site of a drop test simulating a hard (probably extremely hard) landing, http://www.groveaircraft.com/landing_gear.html. What I find interesting is how the Grove gear dissipates the energy by deflecting down in the middle. If you have two separate legs, then somehow the fuselage would have to absorb that energy.

Actually, last Friday I've sent an email to the Czech company that makes the gear
- Comlet.cz to ask for prices, pictures, drawings, specifications etc. So far
no answer. I've even tried to call them today but no one at the company picks
up the phone. :(

While the Grove gear may do a great job in a hard landing, the real problem
with the 601XL is when the nose gear whacks down in a hard landing. I say
that having done so -- and had plenty of firewall and stiffener damage. As
an aside -- check the phenolic block at the bottom of the nose gear strut
every 50 hours or so. If there is a fore and aft elongation there have been
some landings that the nose gear didn't take too well.

better.

Has anyone seen anything about the required modificatin kit being necessary
for the Czech Sport Cruiser, a 601XL derivative? The guy in the hanger next

I will pretty much have 1 wing done today and have documented every hour on
video and I am in the process of uploading it to you tube but the clips
can't be any longer than 10 min's so I will have well over 100 when I am
finished.
here are the ones I have uploaded so far and will post as I get more
finished.

Subject: | tail wheel conversion |
Hi guys, new to the site. Am considering buying a 601HDS trike gear and want to
convert to a tail dragger. How difficult would this be and how costly. A few
people knowledgeable with the 601 say it would be around a 250 hour job! YIPES!!!!
I e-mailed the factory and they said probably around 40 hours and $1000.00.
That seems a little optimistic (time wise)
Has anyone out there done this conversion or have any input!
Cheers!!

The spar cap is 90 deg. (No change) The 85 deg angle on the upright should be ok.
95 deg. would be a problem.
