EAA stepped forward to protect your privilege to build and fly your homebuilts. For example, EAA conducted a survey of Zodiac builders and owners to gain an understanding of how the issue was being dealt with in the field. Over 400 responses were received, with a large majority of owners indicating that they were aware of and had read the relevant documents and were taking action to address the issue. This information gave the FAA a level of confidence that owners of these aircraft were acting in a timely and responsible manner and that no additional action was necessary. I want to thank everyone who took time to complete the survey. This information was critical to our efforts to assure the FAA that the homebuilt community cares about safety issues and that we act responsibly with regard to safety. This =9Cself-policing =9D is the key to maintaining our privileges and freedoms to build and fly homebuilt aircraft. Right on, Carlos. I was taught by a guy who runs a wing shop to drill "just enough", and then use a small drift to snap the weakened head off. Never saw him screw up a hole. Terry, just make sure the sledge hammer has a polished surface. Yesterday I had to remove a bunch of rivets from my HD centre wing skeleton. To avoid damaging the parts, I did not drill until the rivet head comes off. I stopped a little early (practice determines when it is "a little early"), and then remove the remaining material with a pair of cutting pliers. After all rivet heads are removed, the parts come apart quite easily (in this case, an L angle and the landing gear rib). With the cutting pliers, I then remove the rest of the rivet - no need for a centre punch. I thought maybe this process can be used to remove the XL skin without damaging the underlying rib flange. Cheers Carlos Ch601-HD, plans One step forward, two backward. Maybe I should turn around 180 degrees. 2009/12/17 Terry Phillips > > Bingellis recommends a 5 lb bucking bar for the 3/16 rivets. I haven't seen any that heavy, and I was thinking of using a sledge hammer instead. www.aeroelectric.com www.buildersbooks.com www.homebuilthelp.com http://www.matronics.com/contribution http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Zenith601-List ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 06:59:03 PM PST US Subject: Zenith601-List: Jabiru 3300 Muffler clearance From: "601RX" Can someone please measure and post the distance from the top of the muffler to the carb heat shield.
